Hello writers and fellow Wrimos! We are gearing up for another year of noveling in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. My co-ML and I are so excited for our little two year old region that we formed only last year. A little history: We are actually a break-off region from Northern Virginia whose main write-ins are centered around Alexandria and Fairfax. My first year of NaNoWriMo kind of left me writing alone with very little support as the closest write-in was over an hour away. So last year we decided we need to form something West of DC and called ourselves the Shenandoah Valley of the Wrimos. While this was of great benefit to our local writers we also attracted many of the Virginia: Elsewhere Wrimos as far away as Harrisonburg and Lexington. Technically they are part of the physical Shenandoah Valley so we opened our hearts and our doors to them. It was a little rough last year and not many of those Southern Wrimos were able to travel North for our write-ins so this year we have come up with a solution. We have secured four POCs (Point of Contacts) who will act as Mini-Me’s for their local areas. Actually we like to think of them as MLs-in-training. We hope that one day our region will grow enough to encourage others to form their own regions South of us. I would love for the Virginia:Elsewhere region to be eliminated all-together so that all Commonwealth Wrimos can have a place to call home. Our POCs will schedule write-ins and meet-ups for their local areas. Our goal is to make our Wrimos feel more connected with their region by being able to attend NaNo related activities close to home.
